I want to assure you of my concern for the safety and welfare of the children in my child care program. To this end an Emergency/Disaster Response Plan has been developed that will be put into place in case an emergency situation arises. In a widespread disaster, I need to be prepared to care for the children in my care until the situation is under control or appropriate assistance arrives. The specific type of emergency will guide where and what special care will be provided.
Shelter in place – This plan would be put into place in case of a weather emergency or unsafe outside conditions or threats. In this plan, the children will be cared for indoors with all the doors and windows locked to restrict entry. If needed a room will be able to be sealed off to protect air quality. Parents/legal guardians will be notified if they need to pick up their child before their regular time.
Evacuation to another site – This plan would be put into place in the event that it is not safe for children to remain within the facility. I have arranged for alternate sites for care. The choice of site will be determined by the specific emergency and where would be an appropriate place to go. Parents will be notified by text, phone, written posted notice on the facility of the evacuation site being used.
Method to contact parents – In case of an emergency, parents will be texted/called. If we need to evacuate to another site, a note will be placed on my door to tell you where to pick up your child and a text will be sent with evacuation site. Depending on the distance from the facility, the children will either walk or be transported to the alternate site.
Emergency over/reuniting with children – Parents /legal guardians will be texted/called and reunited with their children as soon as possible after the emergency.
Notification – Every effort will be made to contact parents/legal guardians as soon as the children and staff are safe. If we cannot reach you, we will contact your alternate emergency contact. ID and signature will be required for any release of children from any alternative evacuation site.
When you enrolled your child in my program, you completed a list of emergency contacts and persons who may pick up your child. It’s very important to keep that list up-to-date in case an emergency occurs.
The purpose for sharing this information with you is not to cause you worry, but to reassure you that I am working hard to ensure the safety of your child(ren). If you have questions regarding this information, please share them with me.
The Emergency /Disaster Response Plan shall be reviewed periodically for modifications to the procedures and additions of new emergency management information. A copy of my evacuation plan will be on file with local Emergency personnel (local police/fire departments).
